COLUMBUS, OH – The 2024 Ohio Junior Cup wasn’t slated for a repeat of the 2023 blowout after the first day of competition. Both the Northern and Southern Ohio PGA teams were tied 4-4 after Saturday fourballs at the fantastic Columbus Country Club.

Day two looked a lot like 2023.

Team NOPGA dominated singles play Sunday morning, cruising to a 16-8 victory, the exact same scoreline as the 2023 Ohio Junior Cup.

“I love the Junior Ohio Cup experience except for not being able to finish it out and win,” said Team SOPGA’s Cadence Monroe-McCoy. “It brings me a lot of happiness.”

Captained and Vice Captained by Drew Pierson, PGA and Jimmy Beers, PGA, Team NOPGA backed up their dominant victory in 2023 with that strong singles Sunday. Their experience and depth paid off in a big way. NOPGA went 12-4 in singles.

Saturday’s fourball matches were significantly more even. The four boys matches went 2-2. The girls also went 2-2. There was pressure out there Sunday morning.

“I hadn’t played match play yet so that was cool,” said Southern Ohio stalwart Peyton Lawley. “It’s more about playing your opponent than the golf course.”

Ben Chandler, PGA, served as Captain of the 2024 Southern Ohio Team. Chris Yoder, PGA was Vice Captain. Both pros were impressed by the quality of golf on display at CCC. Everyone got a boost from team golf.

“If you look at other sports, they’re playing together, they’re hanging out together and the camaraderie they get from those sports is missing in golf,” said Vice Captain Chris Yoder. “Events like this bring the kids and families together. It’s really cool to see them working as a team together.”

“The SOPGA is like a second family. I love it,” said Cadence. “If I have a hard time in golf, I always come back to relieve some of the stress I have.”

Columbus Country Club shined especially bright with two perfect days of Central Ohio fall weather. Director of Golf Ryan Coll, PGA, and the entire staff at CCC provided fantastic hospitality for the players and their families, in addition to a world-class golf experience.
