CINCINNATI, Ohio (July 26, 2021) – Wyatt Worthington, PGA claimed the 36-hole lead at seven-under-par in the 76th Southern Ohio PGA Professional Championship.
Worthington, a Teaching Professional at The Golf Depot at Central Park in Columbus, OH, began the day with seven birdies in the first round. A few bogeys throughout the round led Worthington to card a final morning score of four-under-par 67. Although he began the second round with an even-par 35, Worthington was determined not to leave anything on the course and came back on his final nine holes with a three-under-par 33, to finish with a three-under-par 68. His total score of seven-under par 135, currently places him two strokes ahead of the field.
Columbus Country Club’s Director of Instruction Chase Wilson, PGA, out on the course in the first group of the day, took the first round lead by carding a six-under-par 65. He kept the pace going with a two-under-par on his first nine of the second round but made some bogeys on his final nine to card a one-over par, 72. Wilson’s five-under-par 137 places him in the final pairing for Tuesday’s final round.
Richard Denny, PGA, Assistant Professional at Jamaica Run Golf Course, and Anthony Andrews, PGA, Head Professional at Blue Ash Golf Course, sit tied in third place at three-under-par, 139. Lloyd Faulkner, PGA, Teaching Professional at Buttermilk Falls Golf Club rounds out the top-five at two-under-par, 140.
The top-30 players (including ties) advanced to the final round three beginning Tuesday, July 27 at 8:00 AM. The top-five finishers in the 76th SOPGA Professional Championship will qualify for the 2022 PGA Professional National Championship. Bob Sowards, PGA, Director of Instruction at Kinsale Golf & Fitness Center, is exempt into the 2022 PGA Professional National Championship as a past champion.
