COLUMBUS, Ohio (August 23, 2021) – Congratulations to Bob Sowards, PGA & Blake Russell (a) and to Danny Sorgini, PGA & Sean Reed (a) on their outstanding performances at Columbus Country Club during the GOLFTEC SOPGA Pro-Am!
As the golf season in Southern Ohio nears its end, 50 PGA Professionals invited their best amateurs to Columbus Country Club for the annual SOPGA Pro-Am (Scratch) event. Teams arrived bright and early for the 18-hole four-ball stroke play event.
Kinsale Golf & Fitness Club’s Director of Instruction Bob Sowards, PGA and his amateur teammate Blake Russell hit the course in the second group of the day. A clean scorecard with seven birdies marked them as the team to beat while more than half the field was making the turn. Blacklick Woods Golf Course’s Assistant Professional Danny Sorgini, PGA and his amateur teammate Sean Reed started the day hot by firing two-under-par in the first two holes. They went on to card five more birdies in the round to secure their tie with Sowards and Russell at seven-under-par. Four teams tied one stroke back at six-under-par. 38 teams finished the round under par.
In addition to the team contest, the Professionals competed in the Main and Senior Individual contests as well. Columbus Country Club’s Chase Wilson, PGA claimed the clubhouse lead early carding a two-under-par 70 for the day. Vineyard Golf Coure’s Sam Arnold, PGA also fired a two-under-par 70 to tie Wilson at the top of the Main Professional leaderboard. Bob Sowards’ individual score of one-under-par 71 secured him the clubhouse lead after his round. Valley View Golf Club’s Chris Black, PGA and Bel-Wood Country Club’s Tim Krapfel, PGA also carded scores of one-under-par 71 later in the day to tie Sowards at the top of the Senior Professional leaderboard.
Amateurs in the field competed in the Tour Greens Closest to the Pin contest taking place on each of Columbus Country Club’s four par-3 holes. Congratulations to Griffin Hayden (Hole #7), Sean Reed (Hole #9), Rex Conn (Hole #13) and Mike Curtis (Hole #17) on sticking it close!
