LEBANON, Ohio (June 28, 2021) – Congratulations to Ashley Thomas, PGA, our 2021 Southern Ohio Women’s Professional Champion! Thomas, a Certified Professional Instructor at GOLFTEC – Blue Ash, carded 80 – 75 to finish at the top of the leaderboard with a score of 11-over-par 155.
Six of Southern Ohio’s female PGA Professionals arrived at Shaker Run Golf Club ready to compete for the championship. 2010 Champion Jennifer Ridle, PGA, from Great Parks’ Miami Whitewater Forest, kicked off the tournament with the first shot of the day. Scioto Country Club’s Jackie Buckley, PGA claimed the clubhouse lead early with a score of 12-over-par 84 in the first round. In the group right behind her were Golf Club of Dublin’s Krissy Austin, PGA and GOLFTEC – Blue Ash’s Thomas who carded scores of eight-over-par 80. Tri County Golf Ranch’s Melissa Yeazell took the round one lead with a five-over-par 77 after an even-par back nine on Shaker Run’s Lakeside.
The afternoon heat was no bother for Thomas as she came out strong with an even-par front nine on Shaker Run’s Woodland. Austin found some trouble in the second round but stayed consistent to card another score of eight-over-par 80 and finish the event in second place. Devon Holden, PGA, of Holden Golf Sales, heated up in the afternoon to bounce back and card an 11-over-par 83.
2021 marks the 23rd annual competition of the Southern Ohio Women’s Professional Championship. This is also Thomas’ seventh consecutive win of the title.
