POWELL, Ohio (September 2, 2021) – Bob Sowards, PGA strung together five birdies in his final six holes to finish at 10-under-par and claim the 76th Southern Ohio PGA Senior Professional Championship at Scioto Reserve Country Club. 

Bob Sowards, PGA has been eligible to compete in the Southern Ohio PGA Senior Professional Championship since 2018. On Wednesday, Sowards made his fourth start in the annual event by firing a four-under-par 68 and taking a one-stroke lead over the field. Opening the second round on Thursday with an even-par 36, things kicked into place for Sowards over the final nine where he carded five birdies in-a-row to close the championship with a six-under-par 66. Sowards’ overall score of 10-under-par, 134, earned him another championship and another year to defend his championship. 

The Southern Ohio PGA Senior Professional Championship’s top finishers qualified to compete in the National Senior PGA Professional Championship, set to be played at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL. In 2018, Sowards earned an exemption into future Senior Championships by winning the 30th Senior PGA Professional Championship. Joining him in Florida this year to compete in the 33rd Senior PGA Professional Championship, set to be played October 21-24,, were five more Southern Ohio PGA members.

In solo second place, Tim Krapfel, PGA secured his spot in the National Championship field by carding rounds of 69-70 to finish at five-under-par. Tied for third place at three-under-par were Sam Arnold, PGA and Lloyd Faulkner, PGA. Scott Spence, PGA & Dave Bahr, PGA rounded out the qualifiers by finishing the tournament tied for fifth place at even-par. 

Tied in seventh place at one-over-par for the tournament, Anthony Andrews, PGA, Bob Stephens, PGA and Barry Hinckley, PGA competed in a playoff to determine who would be first, second and third alternates in the National Championship. Paul Hollenbaugh, PGA earned the fourth alternate spot. Brad Zeitner, PGA will be the fifth and final alternate from the Southern Ohio PGA.
