FAIRBORN, OH (August 10, 2022) – Southern Ohio PGA Professionals prepare for the road to the 2023 PGA Professional Championship through the 77th Southern Ohio PGA Professional Championship set to be played at Miami Valley Golf Club on August 15-16, 2022.
The 2022 Southern Ohio PGA Professional Championship is a 54-hole, individual stroke play event where PGA Professionals throughout the Southern Ohio Section compete for their chance to advance to the National PGA Professional Championship. Players who finish in the top-5 spots on the leaderboard after the two-day competition will secure their spot in the National Championship while the next four players will become alternates for the final event.
The 2021 Southern Ohio PGA Professional Championship proved to be an event for the history books. Wyatt Worthington II, PGA, Teaching Professional based in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, took home the Tommy Bryant Memorial Trophy after finishing five strokes ahead of the field, 10-under-par, at Maketewah Country Club. Worthington went on to finish tied at 279, four-under-par in the 2022 PGA Professional Championship. His Top-20 finish earned him a spot on the “Team of 20” at the PGA Championship.
Miami Valley Golf Club, located four miles from the heart of the city, has provided an exceptional golf experience for more than 100 years. The 18-hole Donald Ross designed golf course is an exciting challenge to amateurs and professionals alike as the club has hosted various local and national tournaments throughout the years highlighted by the 1957 PGA Championship. Lionel Hebert defeated Dow Finsterwald 2 & 1 to win the final match play format of the event. Miami Valley Golf Club has hosted the SOPGA Individual Match Play Championship since 2019.
