FAIRBORN, OH (July 19, 2021) – The Southern Ohio PGA Section was thrilled to welcome its largest group of Tournament Operations Interns earlier this year  – Gillian Boal, Alex Heban, Jordan Nash, Jack Spelder, and Ben Supplee comprised the team for the 2022 season.

“The Southern Ohio PGA is committed to creating an environment for our PGA Members and the game of golf to thrive. Adding five Tournament Operations Interns to our team this season was a great step to helping up maintain the premiere event atmosphere we strive to provide each week,” noted Patrick Salva, Executive Director of the Southern Ohio PGA. 

Gillian Boal, a native of Buffalo, NY, is working towards a Bachelors Degree in Sport Management with a Minor in Marketing and on track to graduate in 2023 from Bowling Green State University. She is a student-athlete on the Swimming and Diving Team at BGSU with goals of working in game-day operations at the Division 1 NCAA level. Boal is looking forward to learning more about the industry and game of golf while building relationships on the course with players and her fellow interns. 

Alex Heban, from Rossford, OH, recently studied Business Administration at Ohio Dominican University where he earned both Bachelors and Masters degrees while contributing as a student-athlete to the Men’s Golf Team. After being a competitive player for the last five years, Heban is excited to see the business side of the game and further his knowledge of how the golf business works as a whole. As a new college graduate, he is excited to begin his career in the golf industry and hopes to help people discover the same love for the sport that he has experienced. 

Jordan Nash, of New Albany, OH, expects to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management from Wittenberg University this Fall. He has gained experience working in the golf industry under the guidance of SOPGA Professionals and has goals of staying in the industry overseeing daily operations at a golf club or organization, preferably in Florida. Nash is looking forward to building relationships on the course while gaining experience in golf operations that can help him throughout his future career.

Jack Spelder, a native of Louisville, KY, is working towards a Bachelors Degree in Sport Administration with plans to graduate in 2024 from University of Cincinnati. In addition to golf, he enjoys playing ice hockey, watching soccer and cheering for the Detroit Red Wings, Cincinnati Bengals and FC Cincinnati. Spelder hopes to develop skills through the SOPGA Summer internship that will help him achieve his dream career of becoming a sports agent for an English Premier League Soccer team. 

Ben Supplee, of Cedarville, OH, plans to graduate in 2023 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from Cedarville University. He enjoyed the SOPGA Tournament Operations Internship in Summer 2021 so much that he chose to continue developing his skills through a second season with the Southern Ohio PGA team! Supplee hopes to develop valuable leadership skills to help him throughout his future career. 

The Southern Ohio PGA Section Tournament Operations Internship began in 2013 with the goal of providing work experience in the golf industry to college-aged students. The primary responsibility of the Tournament Operations Interns is to assist with all aspects of the SOPGA Junior Tour and Section Tournament schedules. The seasonal team operates each event from pre-event set-up, on-course pace of play monitoring and Rules of Golf assistance, player scoring, communications, and post-event clean-up. 

 The Summer 2023 Tournament Operations Internship Application period will open in October 2022. This is a full-time, three-month, hourly paid position. Please email sopgajrtour@pgahq.com with any questions about the internship program in the meantime.
