The Southern Ohio PGA is sad to report the passing of James Childs, PGA.

Cincinnati – James William Childs passed away peacefully on February 2, 2021 at his home and with family.  Jim was born on June 17, 1944 in New Castle, Indiana to Mary Kay Cassidy Childs and Roy Childs.  He is survived by his wife, Susan Krausbauer Childs, sons Benjamin James and Alexander Hathaway and daughter-in-law, Molly Werner Childs.  He leaves three grandchildren Graham Hathaway, Lauren Hennessey and Nolan James. He is survived by his brother Robert Childs and wife Jeanne Childs.  He also leaves nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jim attended New Castle Chrysler High School in New Castle, Indiana, served with the United States Navy and attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.  Jim was a Life Member of the PGA of America; Half Century Member in 2020; Southern Ohio PGA Merchandiser of the Year in 1998 and 2008 and Teacher of the Year in 1996.  Recognized as Top 400 instructors from Golf Digest Magazine.  His professional career began as the Head Professional at the Golf Center of Kings Island, Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio; Losantiville Country Club, Ft. Lauderdale Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Terrace Park Country Club.   He remains Director of Golf Emeritus at Terrace Park Country Club. As a leading golf instructor and teacher in the country, his students won multiple local, state and national golf championships.
