SPRINGBORO, OH – Joe Moore, PGA, and Pat Delaney, PGA, are tied for  the 36-hole lead at one-under-par in the 78th Southern Ohio PGA Professional Championship presented by Corebridge Financial, Club Car, and Rolex, and is supported by Titleist / FootJoy, Callaway, Nike, and TaylorMade.

Joe Moore, PGA is no stranger to holding the overnight lead at the Southern Ohio PGA Professional Championship. The Head Professional at Beavercreek Golf Club was the overnight leader in 2022 when the championship was hosted at Miami Valley Golf Club. Moore opened his round with two early birdies. An even par back-nine helped him card a two-under 70; tied in second place and one stroke off the leader. 

As the heat continued to climb, Moore fought hard to card two birdies and four bogeys during his second round to finish with a two-over-par 74. His total score of 144 earned him a spot in the final group during Wednesday’s final round. 

Tied at the top of the leaderboard heading into the final round is Pat Delaney, PGA Head Professional at Reid Memorial Park Golf Course. Leading up to the 78th SOPGA Professional Championship, Delaney has competed exclusively in the Senior and Super Senior Divisions but he didn’t let the longer distance of the Championship at Sycamore Creek Country Club scare him on Monday. 

With six bogeys and two birdies in the opening round, Delaney carded a score of four-over-par 76. Delaney posted four birdies over his final nine holes to card four-under-par 68 secured his spot at the top of the leaderboard overnight. 

Ben Kern, PGA Director of Golf at Hickory Hills Golf Club sits one shot behind after a consistent day with rounds of 72 – 72 – 145. A trio of players finished at two-over-par 146; Jon Balyeat, PGA Director of Golf at Kenwood Country Club, Dave Bahr, PGA Head Professional at Maketewah Country Club and Kyler Booher, PGA Head Professional at Miami Shores Golf Course.

The top-30 players (including ties) advanced to the final round beginning Tuesday, August 22 at 8:00 AM. The top-five finishers in the 78th SOPGA Professional Championship will qualify for the 2024 PGA Professional Championship scheduled to be played April 28-May 1, 2024 at Fields Ranch at PGA Frisco. Four alternate player spots are also available to the top players. 

Bob Sowards, PGA, Director of Instruction at Kinsale Golf & Fitness Center, Ben Kern, PGA Director of Golf at Hickory Hills Golf Club and Wyatt Worthington, PGA are exempt into the 2024 PGA Professional Championship based on their top finishes at previous championships.
