(FAIRBORN, OH) – The Southern Ohio PGA Section is pleased to welcome Vuyo Mondi to its staff as the 2024-2025 PGA WORKS Fellow.
Mondi was introduced to the game of golf by his father while growing up in Johannesburg, South Africa. He played competitively during high school at Hilton College, where he was a member of successful teams that achieved national success. In grades 11 & 12, Mondi was recognized as one of the best high school players in the KwaZulu Natal Inland region of South Africa. Now, Mondi and his father are on a quest to play all 14 courses (11 down 3 to go) that have hosted “The Open Championship”.
Mondi attended Arizona State University where he graduated in 2022 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both African and African American Studies and Sports Business. Prior to joining the SOPGA Staff, he recently completed the MBA/MSA Program at Ohio University.
“I look forward to continuing my love of the game of golf and using its great characteristics to enrich the lives of others,” Mondi responded when asked what he is looking forward to learning while in the Southern Ohio PGA team.
In his new role, Mondi will support the Section’s PGA REACH Foundation programming and fundraising efforts. He will work closely with Section staff to continue growing Foundation programming including PGA HOPE Southern Ohio, SOPGA Junior Tour and the Scholarship Program. Players will also see him on the course at Section events throughout the season. Mondi is excited to learn more about the variety of pathways that exist within the PGA of America and the golf industry as a whole.
“Our PGA WORKS Fellow has grown to be a vital part of our Southern Ohio PGA team,” noted Southern Ohio PGA Executive Director Patrick Salva. “We’re confident that Vuyo will make a significant impact on our operation and our members. At the same time, we’re confident that through this experience Vuyo will be well prepared to impact the golf industry in the future.”
Since 2018, the Southern Ohio Section has employed seven PGA WORKS Fellows for a timeline of 12 months. The PGA WORKS Fellowship provides the opportunity for a one-year, paid immersion in a PGA Section’s Foundation operations. The entry-level experience offers a taste of what a career in the golf industry can look like by introducing participants to all facets of the industry. The program is part of the PGA WORKS strategic initiative designed to diversify the golf industry’s workforce. PGA WORKS is funded by PGA REACH, the 501(c)(3) charitable foundation of the PGA of America.
