Grove City, OH – Jake Scott, an Assistant Professional at Elyria Country Club, claimed victory at the 17th SOPGA Open at Pinnacle Golf Club. Scott shot a first round 7-under-par 65 to win the rain-shortened event, the third straight Section event to be modified by weather. The tournament was originally scheduled as a 36-hole event, but multiple rain and lightning delays forced it to be shortened to an 18-hole event after rain and darkness promped the final cancellation just after 8:00 PM.

With the threat of weather hanging over the field all day, Scott raced out to an early lead after the first round of play. He posted a clean card with seven birdies and zero bogeys on his way to a 65. He had a four stroke cushion over TT Crouch heading into an afternoon round that ultimately didn’t matter.

Tournament and course staff did everything they could to get the full tournament in, but in the end mother nature won out. Play was finally called for good when multiple greens started to hold water and players could no longer see shots due to the rain and darkness.

Big thank you to Scott Callaghan, PGA and his staff for hosting this event and for doing everything in their power to keep the course playable through multiple delays.
