GROVE CITY, OH (October 6, 2021) – Captain Cory George, PGA and the Southern Ohio Team reclaimed the Ohio Cup after four years with an 18-14 victory over the Northern Ohio PGA Team. 

Day two of the 25th Ohio Cup at Pinnacle Golf Club began with the conclusion of two, second round foursome matches which were delayed due to darkness the previous day. Nick Gustin, PGA and Joe Meglen, PGA added an early point for Northern Ohio by defeating Kyler Booher, PGA and Danny Sorgini, PGA 2&1. Southern Ohio’s Jeff Olson, PGA and Chase Wilson, PGA didn’t let their team fall down the leaderboard by winning their match 2&1 against Mark Evans, PGA & Jaysen Hansen, PGA. 

With a one point lead, Southern Ohio opened the final round single matches determined to bring the Cup back to the Section. Sam Arnold, PGA put the first singles match point on Southern Ohio’s leaderboard with a 3 & 2 defeat over Northern Ohio’s Rob Moss, PGA. Tim Krapfel, PGA added a hard-earned half point after a tie with Northern Ohio Competing Captain Gary Trivisonno, PGA. Chase Wilson, PGA maintained his undefeated status with a 1-up victory over Jaysen Hansen, PGA on the eighteenth. Bob Stephens, PGA closed his match against Mitchell Camp, PGA finishing 2 & 1. Dave Bahr, PGA carded an eagle on the second hole to give him an early lead and finish 3 & 2 over Gary Rusnak, PGA. Michael Auterson, PGA defeated Adam Lewicki, PGA 2-up by turning up the heat early in the match with two eagles in the first eight holes. Joe Moore, PGA earned the team another point on the board with a 3 & 2 victory over Nick Gustin, PGA. Winning his match in the least amount of holes, Danny Sorgini, PGA defeated Cory Kumpf 5 & 4 on the fourteenth. With three holes left to play, Jeff Olson, PGA continued his undefeated streak by winning his match against Randy Dietz. 

In the final match left on the course, Southern Ohio Rookie Ricky Denny, PGA and his opponent Nick Paez, PGA felt all eyes on them on the par-3 fifteenth. With his teammates surrounding him, Denny felt no pressure and hit the middle of the green with a fluid swing then made his birdie putt to a back flagstick to win the match 5 & 3. His final point on the board secured the 25th Ohio Cup victory for Southern Ohio.
