Maineville, OH — Caleb Wittig, PGA Assistant Golf Professional at Zanesville Country Club surged on the back nine Tuesday to win at the 75th Southern Ohio PGA Professional Championship at TPC River’s Bend. He fired a final round 4-under-par 68 to complete the come-from-behind victory.

This is his first career victory in the event in his first year eligible after gaining his Membership in June 2020. His victory in another notch in already impressive season, which also includes a win at the 2020 SOPGA Assistant Professional Championship.

Wittig came into the final round three strokes off the lead. A group of three past champions consisting of Bob Sowards, PGA, Sam Arnold, PGA and Dave Bahr, PGA all held a share of the lead at 2-under-par overall after two rounds of play. Wittig was one of three players tied in fourth place at 1-over-par along with Joe Moore, PGA and Anthony Andrews, PGA

Wittig only carded one bogey in his final round to go along with five birdies, including a stretch of three in four holes to start his back nine. He played steady with all pars after that to complete the victory.

Sowards, a ten-time winner of the event, finished runner-up after a final round of 1-over-par 73. Moore, Bahr and Chase Wilson, PGA rounded out the top five and will advance to the 2021 national championship. Sam Arnold will also join that group at the national championship next year.
