Just weeks after becoming the first woman to win the Main Division of a Southern Ohio PGA Section event, Allie White returned to the winner’s circle Monday at Springfield Country Club, firing a remarkable 7-under 65 to capture the Springfield Classic.
The victory was more than another trophy.
It was another reminder that White’s name is no longer appearing atop Southern Ohio PGA leaderboards because she’s making history. It’s there because she’s playing some of the best golf in the Section.
Fresh off competing against the world’s best at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club, White wasted little time carrying that momentum home.
Her round of 65 featured nine birdies against just two bogeys, the lowest score of the day by a stroke and enough to finish one clear of Bob Sowards.
The victory marks White’s second Main Division title in just three Section starts this season, adding another chapter to what has already become one of the most significant summers in Southern Ohio PGA history.
Last month, White broke new ground by becoming the first woman ever to win a Main Division event when she captured the SOPGA Stableford Classic. Now, she’s proven it was no one-time breakthrough.
She’s become one of the players to beat.
That continued excellence has White on the verge of another milestone. With the Ohio Cup approaching later this year, she appears poised to become the first woman selected to represent the Southern Ohio PGA in the Ryder Cup-style matches against the Northern Ohio PGA.
If selected, it would be another fitting step in a season defined by firsts.
Behind White, Sowards continued his consistent summer with a runner-up finish at 6-under 66, while Ben Kern finished third after carding a 5-under 67.
Jared Jones and Brad Loomis shared fourth at 3-under 69, with Ricky Denny, Michael Auterson and Wyatt Wilson rounding out the players under par at 1-under 71.
Sowards won the Senior Division. Chris Rossi and Adam Taulbee tied for first in the Associate Division.
