Assistant Professional of the Year
Some golf professionals make themselves indispensable by simply doing more. Garrett Wisniewski, PGA, has done something harder: He has made the people and the operation around him better.
At Columbus Country Club, Wisniewski has embraced the sprawling, often invisible work that comes with being an Assistant Professional. He manages tournaments, teaches lessons and handles the thousand small details that determine whether a day at the club runs smoothly. He does it with initiative and the kind of ownership that has made him an invaluable part of CCC and its exceptional staff.
Wisniewski’s influence touches every part of club life at Columbus Country Club and beyond. He’s a steady presence at PGA Jr. League and has guided three All-Star teams to regional competition. He’s also taken his leadership talents to Augusta National Golf Club, where he worked the Drive, Chip & Putt National Championship.
But perhaps his greatest strength is his ability to reach people, regardless of their experience in golf. Garrett took a new junior golfer under his wing and, in just a few summers, transformed them from someone brand new to the game into a capable player. Inspired by Garrett’s instruction—and perhaps more importantly, by his encouragement—that golfer eventually earned a spot on one of Ohio’s most competitive high school golf teams.
The game followed the player home, too – the rest of the family now plays regularly together.
That is the mark of a professional who understands the job is bigger than the job title.
Wisniewski is still an Assistant Professional. But the leadership and care he brings to the role already hint at the Head Professional and Director of Golf he will one day become.
For now, the Southern Ohio PGA is proud to recognize him as the 2026 Assistant Professional of the Year.
