The Professional Development Award Winner
For nearly two decades, Jeff McEldowney, PGA, has made professional development not just a personal priority, but a pillar of the culture he’s built at GOLFTEC Columbus. His relentless commitment to learning and to creating opportunities for others to do the same has shaped careers, elevated standards, and strengthened the fabric of the Southern Ohio PGA.

McEldowney’s impact starts with his active role in the Section’s educational landscape. He’s been a fixture at nearly every Teaching and Coaching Summit, both locally and nationally, not only attending but making it possible for his staff to participate by covering costs and recognizing the time as workdays. He’s shared his own expertise at multiple Section workshops, presenting on both teaching and club fitting, and has sought insights from some of the game’s most respected minds, including Chris Como, Michael Breed, Scott Fawcett, and Nick Clearwater.
Jeff is also known for passing that knowledge forward. Since 2020, McEldowney has championed the “Pass Your PAT” program, offering aspiring PGA Professionals three months of complimentary lessons to prepare for the Playing Ability Test. Many graduates have gone on to earn PGA membership, a number that continues to grow thanks to his willingness to extend the program for those who demonstrate dedication and progress. Most recently, he launched the GOLFTEC Columbus Book Club, providing coaches with access to the same resources that have guided top business leaders in the Columbus community.
Overseeing a team of 8 PGA Members and 6 PGA Associates, Jeff works closely with each professional to align their career path with their personal goals. He’s proud that GOLFTEC Columbus boasts one of the lowest turnover rates in the country, a testament to the supportive, growth-focused culture he’s fostered. In an evolving golf instruction industry, McEldowney has remained steadfast in his commitment to exclusively employing PGA Professionals and Associates, even petitioning GOLFTEC to cover all PGA membership fees more than 15 years ago.
Colleagues describe him as a leader who proves you can love your work without losing balance in your life. With over 20 years of instruction experience and 18 years as a PGA Member, McEldowney continues to inspire through mentorship, innovation, and a steadfast belief that professional development is the key to growing both the game of golf and the people who make it thrive.
